
William Martindale Death; Victim identified in deadly South Carolina Walmart shooting as new details emerge
The guy who was murdered in a shooting at a Walmart on Friday afternoon has been identified by the Sumter County Coroner’s Office.
Around 3 p.m., a shooting occurred inside the Walmart Supercenter on Broad Street. Social media users shared pictures of individuals being evacuated from the building as dozens of police officers and emergency vehicles arrived on the site.
Police confirmed at 5:22 p.m. that Chanceler Lowery, a 19-year-old suspect, was in custody and was the subject of a picture the department made public following the incident. According to reports, the suspect was turned in by his parents, but authorities are currently searching for another individual involved in the case.
The victim, 24-year-old Jaquante Montgomery of Sumter, was hit multiple times, according to Coroner Robbie Baker. The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston will have an autopsy on February 18.
Russell Roark, the chief of Sumter Police, acknowledged that Lowery and the victim were acquainted during a press conference on Friday evening.
