Hubert Gauthreaux Sr. and Victoria Gauthreaux Death; Gretna police arrest man after deadly drunk driving crash
Two people are dead after a high-speed crash in Gretna on Saturday night.
Gretna police say the crash happened around 6:40 p.m. in the 700 block of Fourth Street.
According to police, Stephan Juarez, 33, was speeding eastbound on Fourth Street when he crossed the center line and hit several vehicles, including one with passengers inside.
Both Hubert Gauthreaux Sr. and Victoria Gauthreaux died from their injuries.
Juarez was transported to Ochsner Hospital Westbank with minor injuries and was arrested once released from the hospital.
He is being charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, reckless operation, DWI second offense, suspended driver’s license, no seat belt and possession of marijuana.
The city of Gretna will be holding a pray vigil at the site of the crash at 4 p.m.
This heartbreaking loss is made even more painful as they were the grandparents of 21-year-old Hubert Gauthreaux III, a victim of the Bourbon Street terror attack—one tragedy compounded by another.
In times like these, we must come together to support their loved ones as they navigate this unimaginable grief. Our entire Gretna community stands with the Gauthreaux family. Please keep their loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.
