Chanceler Lowery Arrested; 24-year-old man killed in Sumter Walmart Shooting, suspect identified
A suspect has been taken into custody in relation to the tragic shooting that took place at the Walmart Supercenter on Broad Street on Friday afternoon, according to Sumter Police Chief Russell Roark.
Roark confirmed during a news conference on Friday night that Sumter resident Chanceler Lowery, 19, was arrested following his parents’ surrender.
More information about the victim will be made public later by the Sumter County Coroner’s Office.
Officials stated that there was no continuing threat to the neighbourhood after the incident, and no additional injuries were reported.
A preliminary investigation indicates that Lowery and the victim were known to each other and had been experiencing ongoing disputes before the shooting.
Roark described the case as “fluid”, with interviews still ongoing. Authorities anticipate bringing in an additional individual for questioning.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities will release further details as they become available.
