COLUMBIA: There is a police presence in the Harpers Farm Road/Cedar Lane area for a report of the sound of alleged gunfire around 12:25 p.m. There is NO active shooter threat, no reported injuries, and at this time no evidence of a shooting has been located in the area. The investigation is continuing. Area schools were placed on lockdown in an abundance of caution.

The Jackson Police Department is investigating after an 18-year-old female was shot and killed.
A press release says JPD received a call at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 17 regarding a shooting in the 3200 block of James Hill Drive.
According to Interim Hinds County Coroner Jeramiah Howard, the victim, Adajha Ellis, was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center by a personal vehicle around 9:07 a.m. with multiple gunshot wounds. She died at the hospital.
Detectives arrested 29-year-old Jeremy Murphy. He is charged with murder and tampering with evidence.
